Andrea Bocelli
Andrea Bocelli In ConcertItalian tenor Andrea Bocelli was born on 22 September 1958 and grew up on the family’s farm in Lajatico, Tuscany. Andrea was born with the eye disease glaucoma and by the age of 12 years he had completely lost his sight. Early in his life, Andrea’s parents realised that their son had a great talent for music and at the age of only six years, encouraged and supported by his parents he began to play the piano and later also flute and saxophone. However, Andrea found in his voice the perfect instrument and in 1970 he achieved his first success when he performed "O sole mio" in a song competition. Inspired by the tenor Franco Corelli and other stars of opera and song, Andrea Bocelli began to study singing with Maestro Luciano Bettarini. To pay for his singing lessons, he played piano in local pubs while also studying for his law degree at university in Pisa.
In March 2010, the tenor from Tuscany received a true accolade: a star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame". He is one of very few Italians to have been immortalised in this prestigious parade of the stars.
